How to choose your deck?

The deck is a very important part of the freestyle scooter! It's essential to choose one that suits you. You will have to consider several points to find the ideal deck, but also make sure it's compatible with the other elements that make up your scooter!

Don't worry, Nature-Ride is there to help you with your decision.

1. The different parts of a deck

A freestyle scooter's deck consists of several parts.

  • The headtube: That is the part where the fork lodges itself to allow the scooter's rotations.
  • The downtube: That is the link between the headtube and the deck.
  • The deck: The deck is the part where the rider puts their feet. Generally in aluminium, its quality varies based on the price range.

Careful!

Integrated headtubes only work with integrated headsets.

2. The deck's weight

The deck will withstand your weight during the landings of your tricks. It'll take a lot of pressure. It's important to have a solid deck of quality. The weight of the deck influences its stability and its manoeuvrability.

Generally, the weight of a deck is between 1.1 and 2kg.

To have a maximum of stability in the air, choose a heavier deck. If instead you want more manoeuvrability, take a lighter deck.

3. The deck's length

A deck's length varies between 49 and 29 cm and will have an impact on the scooter's inertia.
As with its weight, the length of a deck influences its manoeuvrability and stability.

  • If you prefere riding in skateparks, choose a shorter deck for more manoeuvrability.
  • If you're a street rider, choose a longer deck for more stability.

Take your height into account!

If you're of medium height, take a short deck. On the contrary, if you're tall, choose a longer one.

4. The deck's width

The deck's width varies between 10 to 15cm. It also has an impact on the scooter's inertia.

To choose the width of your deck, you'll need to take the same parameters into account as with the length.

The narrower it is, the easier to handle it is. The wider, the more stable it is!

Some models of freestyle scooters are concave in their width. This makes it easier to wedge your feet for more stability, which makes tricks easier to perform.

4. The deck's angle

The angle of a freestyle scooter's deck varies between 82° to 84°. This angle defines the position of the handlebar on the scooter.

The higher the degree is, the more the handlebar will stand away from your body. The lower it is, the closer it will be to you.

  • For skateparks: choose a lower angle
  • For street riding: choose a higher angle

More info:

  • All pegs aren't compatible with all decks.
  • The griptape of a deck can be replaced as often as you want. You'll just need to properly clean the deck before sticking the new grip.

There, you've got all the information you need to choose your scooter's deck, but don't forget to take how you feel into account!

GOOD RIDE !
