The brand has put in place a multitude of actions to reduce the impact of snowboarding on our beautiful planet.
Sustainability is defined as the quality of not harming the environment, of not depleting natural resources, and of supporting the ecological balance in the long term
NITROis concerned about the environmental impact, social responsibility of our business and our passion for snowboarding. The brand focuses on quality to extend the life of its products. It does not produce more than is required and takes into account the energy, carbon emissions and shipping of the products. Nitro sources alternative and sustainable materials to replace those based on fossil fuels and linked to carbon emissions.
CLIMATE-NEUTRAL SNOWBOARDS!
In collaboration with Climate Partner,The brand was able to study the emissions generated by the entire life cycle of their snowboards. They are now able to work on reducing the carbon emissions of their products and invest in carbon offset projects that compensate for 100% of the emissions of their snowboards. As of 2021, Nitro Snowboards have officially become carbon neutral.
BINDINGS, MINIMUM WASTE!
Nitro uses 20% recycled material in their plastic parts. All plastic parts are injection moulded, a waste-free process. The brand has banned all plastic packaging and uses only recycled cardboard to protect their products. The ink used to print the fastener boxes has been reduced by 95% compared to previous years.
BOOTS, MINIMUM PHTHALATE
Almost all boots are made of PVC-free materials and the glue is benzene-free.
Resource-efficient materials and production
TOPSHEET FINISHES
Water-based inks in over 70% of their topsheets and over 30% of their soles.
15% of their bases do not use ink. 70% of their tops are either unvarnished or finished with a solvent-free lacquer with a VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) index of zero
RECYCLED MATERIALS
Over 85% of their soles are made from recycled materials.
WOODCORE
FSC certification: all their cores are certified by the FSC environmental label
RESOURCES
Nitro heats its presses with water, not oil or electricity. Their sole grinding system uses a closed water circuit with integrated filter systems. This saves energy and resources.
The brand has started using thinner topsheets than most other brands, which saves raw materials and weight.
Nitro has installed a 700 KW solar power plant on the roof of their snowboard factory. This is enough energy to power the factory, offices and staff flats.

The partnership with ClimatePartner allows Nitro to find ways to improve and reduce the carbon footprint at every stage of the brand's product lifecycle, as well as offsetting the current carbon footprint to make the snowboards carbon neutral
100% FSC™ CERTIFIED
Nitro is proud to officially announce that all of their boards are made with 100% harvested wood cores from well-managed forests and are therefore allowed to use the official FSC™ label on all their snowboards.
