Which board size to choose?
The size of your snowboard is an important element for comfort and precision. You need a snowboard that fits your size but also your riding style! Here is a small size guide to help you choose the right size of your snowboard. It will serve as a reference point but also, don't forget to take your feelings into account!
Size guide
It is generally recommended that the snowboard reaches the chin, but you should also take into account your size and type of riding.
- You are rather thin: choose a snowboard that is more or less 20 cm below your height.
- You're pretty strong: choose a snowboard that is more or less 17 cm below your height.
For freestyle, you should choose a smaller board! You will launch your rotations more easily and will have less trouble linking the modules.
For freeriding, it's the opposite. A slightly bigger board will give you more lift and support on the snow.
But it's also a matter of feeling, so don't forget to do it according to your preferences too!
Wide boards ?
Choosing the right length of snowboard is great! But you also have to pay attention to the width! Your shoe size will influence this parameter.
The size is an important element to take into account when choosing your board and not only for the bindings!
With a board that is too narrow, your boots will stick out either at the toe or at the heel. In either case, you could be hampered when you take edges. The boots will scrape the snow and in the best case you will be slowed down and unbalanced. In the worst case scenario, it will result in a fall or even an injury.
On a board that is too wide, the heels and toes will be too far apart to exert enough pressure. The leverage will be too low and you will have more difficulty initiating and maintaining a turn.
In general, from size 45 onwards, you should opt for a " wide ».
