How to choose your wakeboarding bindings?
The boots are an essential element. They are the link between you and your wakeboard. Having the right boots will give you comfort and precision! So, how do you choose your wakeboard boots? Don't worry, Nature-Ride is here to help you in your choice!
There are 5 different types of bindings with different characteristics:
1. The strap system
More common in kitesurfing, the strap system can be found on a wakeboard. It is generally used for the initiation to wakeboarding because it allows the feet to leave the board easily and quickly in case of a fall.
2. Open bindings
Open bindings are a good choice for beginner to intermediate riders. They can be laced, scratched or strapped. Their main advantage is that they are compatible with several sizes! Ideal for families or people who share a board!
The price of open bindings is generally lower than closed bindings. The downside is that if you ride in colder water, you may get cold faster because your toes are directly exposed to the wind and water. Also, this system offers less precision in the ride, due to its size versatility.
Example of sizes (Europe) of open bindings: S/M 35.5 to 39 ----M/L 40 to 44----L/XL 45 and over
3. Closed bindings
Closed bindings are the most common, especially in cable parks. They are perfect both for beginners and experienced riders! They can be laced, scratched or strapped. Nature-Ride recommends laces or straps as scratch systems can be damaged quickly and are therefore less efficient in terms of grip.
Unlike open bindings, this type of shoe only covers 2 sizes but will be much more precise! They are a must for riders who want to do tricks on the modules. Closed bindings also offer more protection for the toes and feet in general.
4. Closed bindings with slippers
It's the same system as the closed shoes, but here the slippers around your feet are removable! Ideal for walking on the banks of our favourite lakes without risking foot injuries! This is a must for cablepark riders! They are comfortable and precise! An issue with these would be that they are slightly heavier by a few hundred grams compared to closed bindings without slippers. To extend the life of your bindings, it is possible to buy only the slippers !
5.Bindings + boots
This system is a little less common and specific to certain brands. It is clearly inspired by snowboarding. These boots allow you to keep your boots on your feet and therefore guarantee total safety when walking along the banks. Bindings + boots are quite precise and comfortable, however a problem with this system would be the risk of wear/breakage as there are more parts.
The final point!
It is important to know that new bindings can be a bit tight, this is normal. The neoprene in the new shoes must settle a little and therefore free up a little space!
ATTENTION!!! Some brands offer bindings that can only be mounted on their boards, such as the 4d system!
For your convenience, at Nature-Ride, all our bindings are compatible with each of our wakeboard boards!
